Finally Complete

The room is finally done.  I had the chance to hang the drapes today.  I love how it turned out.

Now that its done, I think I'll take a little break.  Okay, break's over, time to work on the canning!

 

Summer Time

I know...long time since I posted.  Things have been very busy in Roseville.  My mother is visiting for a few weeks and work (my other job) has ramped up with quite a few very large and exciting projects. 

Even though the days are long, there never seems to be enough of me to go around.  I have the best intentions but extremely long lists!

I have managed to squeeze in a few home projects.  The spare bedroom is almost done.  I'm just waiting on the drapes to arrive.  Can't present the big reveal without the drapes, so here's a little peek...  UPDATE:  The drapes have arrived but are now in queue to be installed.

Robin's egg blue, cream, gold and a little touch of black.  I've decorated with a few of my treasures from Europe and couldn't be more pleased with the way the room is turning out.

I've also been busy with a little project for Mr. Rose.  He wanted to create a garden walkway and purchased some very basic concrete walking stones for the job.  Boooorrrrinnnngggg.  So, of course, they needed to be "Pattyfied" as my family and friends like to describe it. 

After one experimental misfire due to not fully remembering the nature of mortar, I managed to hit target with these little gems...

I put a layer of mortar on the stepping stones (much like icing a cake) and then put the broken tiles into the wet mortar.  Broken dishes, broken sample tiles (Den, I told you I would find a way to use them!) and ceramic tile pieces that were removed from our foyer a few years back.  I knew those pieces would eventually be perfect for another project!

Which lead to a frenzy of creation including these little cuties...

I used plant tray liners as the mold and used concrete mix as the base.  Again, just putting the broken pieces into the wet concrete. 

Mosaic is one of my favorite mediums.  So many things can be used and the possibilities are truly endless.  Yes, it really is me and I really do all these crazy things but usually there is no one around but me so no photos of me actually doing things!  Thanks for the photo mom!

Christmas Morning

Good morning friends.  It's a quiet Christmas morning here in Ohio.  We have the wonderful pleasure of experiencing a quiet, white Christmas this morning.  The blanket of snow seems to add a layer of tranquility.  Here's a little peek into a few of my favorite things around the house.  We wish you a wonderous Christmas and the very best in the coming year.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

I'd Rather be Drinking Tequila

The weekend is quickly coming to a close.  It's been a good day.  The housework is done and it's time to sit down for a cup of tea.  My new favorite, Paris, by Harney and Sons, and my old faithful cup.  I love this cup.  It's not very sophisticated sitting next to the pretty canister but it is still very special to me, nonetheless.  My son got it for me many years ago.  He has a wicked sense of humor and thought it would be a hysterical sight to see his mother sipping her afternoon tea from a cup that said,  

"I would rather be drinking tequila."

Especially since drinking tequila from a coffee cup, or any container for that matter, would probably never happen in Roseville.  My sweet little cup is getting tired.  It has many cracks and scratches and has discolored from so much use.  Whenever I open the cupboard and see it sitting there and I remember the day he brought it home, I just can't resist choosing it to accompany me for another few minutes of resting and regrouping before the next task at hand begins.  It's kind of like leaving the artwork from school on the refrigerator for months on end because you just can't bear to part with an expression of the sweet inner workings of a child's mind.  He's grown and on his own these days, but this cup reminds me of that adorable little boy that found humor in such a crazy little vision of his mother toting a slogan on her cup that would be so contrary to her existence. Especially since the most wonderful thing that cup holds to this day is fond memories of a wild-haired little boy with a big brown eyes and a wry little smile.

 

Spring Flinging

Again, its been too long since the last post.  I've been writing and creating, just not on this particular media.  I've been very busy working through the design process for a friend's home.  She's only recently been referring to it as a home.  Prior to the paint, curtains, artwork and accessories, she just considered it a place to hold her boxes.  Working through this process, I'm reminded of how much of ourselves we reflect in our homes.  Or at least it should be.  A home truly isn't a home until we place our own energy around the rooms in the form of mementos and objects aquired over our lifetime.  I once read that energy from the owner or creator of an object forever remains with that object.  Maybe it is such that our own energy and happy memories reflect back on us when we are surrounded by the things that we love.  I've also been very busy at my own house spring flinging.  The flower boxes that prior to this spring only existed in my dreams, have finally materialized and have been joyously planted with bright strawberry geraniums, purple million bells and chartruese creeping jenny.  My front door sports a brand new coat of robin's egg blue, complete with brown specks and a white glaze wash.  Soon the front porch (as soon as the rain stops) will have a fresh coat of new paint along with a racy little harlequin pattern to match the front door. There's just something about the spring that makes me want to fluff, sweep, shine and spruce.  I'm wrapping up my friend's new home, so there will be more time for such things.  And more time for posting.
